Wireless Emergency Alerts Program
The Wireless Emergency Alerts Program will be replacing The Wireless AMBER Alerts Program as of December 31, 2012. AMBER Alerts will then be distributed via the Wireless Emergency Alerts program that also distributes Presidential and Imminent Threat Alerts. Unlike Wireless AMBER Alerts, which users had to sign up to receive, WEA AMBER Alerts will automatically be distributed to users with a WEA-capable device in the area of an active alert. The Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs as well as the Wireless Industry through CTIA, FEMA, Syniverse, and NCMEC have all worked very hard to ensure a seamless transition.
