BASIC NARCOTICS INVESTIGATION

Prerequisite: Applicants must be commissioned peace officers.  The Missouri State Highway Patrol reserves the right to refuse applications.

Course Description: Veteran narcotics/vice investigators will present an overview of narcotics investigations and undercover operations.  Topics will include drug identification, investigative techniques commonly used in narcotics/vice investigations, several aspects of federal investigations, as well as drug and case law to assist officers in the field and in the courtroom.  The Missouri National Guard R.A.I.D. Counter Drug Operations will provide an orientation on the services they can provide.  Officers will also receive basic guidance in undercover investigations and in the development, use, and control of confidential informants.

Who Should Attend: Criminal investigators, narcotics/vice investigators, officers interested in a career development program in narcotics or vice.  This course is a mandatory pre-requisite to the Advanced Narcotics Investigation Course for Missouri State Highway Patrol Narcotics Officers and Task Force Officers in Patrol coordinated task forces.

Tuition/Registration Fees: Registration fees are due by the first day of class.  If fees are not paid in full prior to completion of class, certificates and continuing education hours will not be issued unless payment is received.

Cost:

  • $475 - tuition, meals, and lodging
  • $290 - tuition and meals

  • 25 hours of Technical Studies
  • 11 hours of Legal Studies
  • 2 hours of Skill Development
  • 2 hours of Interpersonal Perspectives
