CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION

Prerequisite: Basic Law Enforcement Training, Basic Crime Scene Investigation (not required, but helpful).

Course Description: The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control host this training at the Academy.  The training will include numerous forensic disciplines to include bloodstain pattern analysis, crime scene technology updates, homicide scene investigation, subsurface excavation, DNA, trace evidence, casting impressions, updates in latent fingerprint recovery, computer forensic searches, and other related disciplines.  The course also includes crime scene management and crime scene legal issues.

Course Instructors: Classes are instructed by numerous experts to include Dr. Keith Norton and Mr. Ron Yoder representing Southwest Missouri Forensics; Mr. Dean Dankelson, Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney; Officers from the Digital Forensic Investigation Unit; and Sergeant Scott Mertens, Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Who Should Attend: Criminal investigators, detectives, or officers charged with the duty of processing crime scenes.

Tuition/Registration Fees: Registration fees are due by the first day of class.  If fees are not paid in full prior to completion of class, certificates and continuing education hours will not be issued unless payment is received.

Cost:

  • $450 - tuition, meals, and lodging
  • $265 - tuition and meals

Continuing Education Hours:

  • 22 hours of Technical Studies
  • 6 hours of Skill Development
  • 3 hours of Legal Studies
