Victim/Witness Assistance Information

About This Brochure

As a victim or witness, the days and months ahead may be stressful for you and your family. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is concerned about what you may experience as a victim or witness of a crime. It is our policy to recognize and support you as an essential element to effective law enforcement.

The Patrol is committed to providing the best and most modern law enforcement technology available. We maintain a complete and comprehensive criminal laboratory that includes fingerprint identification, ballistics, DNA, and extensive analytical capabilities. But, we still need your help.

Even though this may be a difficult time for you and your family, we need your continued support in our efforts to apprehend criminals and bring them to justice. The criminal justice system relies upon victims, witnesses, and the community to help hold criminals accountable for their actions. In return, victims and witnesses deserve to be treated with fairness, compassion, and dignity.

This is in violation of Missouri law (Section 575.270 RSMo.).

Witnesses

If you witness a crime, and someone attempts to influence you through threats, force, bribery, or intimidation in order to persuade you to disobey a subpoena, withhold evidence or information, or give false testimony:

This is in violation of Missouri law (Section 575.270 RSMo.).

If this is happening to you, in order for the prosecutor to act on it, the incident must be reported to law enforcement and a police report filed.
