Promoting Safety Through Education

Public Information & Education Officers

One of the specialized services of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is providing presentations to the public about traffic safety, crime prevention, and other law enforcement-related topics. This responsibility is carried out by the public information and education officers (PIEOs). Each troop has at least one officer assigned to this position.

PIEOs are experienced troopers, giving them insight into safety and crime issues. These officers also attend seminars concerning all areas of public safety. Radio and television stations and newspapers are encouraged to contact these officers when seeking information about safety issues. PIEOs present programs to schools, civic clubs, churches, organizations, businesses, and others interested in safety, crime prevention, and the Highway Patrol.

Your group may request any of the programs or demonstrations included in this brochure by contacting the troop headquarters in the area in which you live. Please remember to request a presentation at least six to eight weeks prior to the program date.

Missouri State Highway Patrol's public information and education officers present a variety of programs. If your group would like a program on any of the issues in this booklet or another safety-related issue, please contact the public information and education officer at the troop headquarters nearest you, or the Public Information and Education Division at (573) 526-6115.
