Come Learn About the Highway Patrol!
You’re invited to visit the Colonel Alvin R. Lubker Safety & Education Center! The center is located within the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s General Headquarters in Jefferson City. Nowhere in the state of Missouri is there such a comprehensive display of information concerning traffic safety, the dangers of drug abuse, and the history of the Patrol. Come learn about the services and responsibilities of the Highway Patrol, both on and off the highways. Did you know the Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers enforce Missouri laws pertaining to the state’s lakes and rivers?
When you visit, you’ll see five historic patrol vehicles on display. Learn about the 1931 Ford Model A Roadster, 1942 Chevrolet, 1953 Chevrolet, 1959 Dodge, 1978 Mercury, and two motorcycles. Other historical exhibits include law enforcement antiques, such as locks and keys from various county jails, handcuffs, and objects of every description that could be used as weapons in the wrong hands.
Were you aware famous criminals have traveled through Missouri? Troopers were in a shootout with Bonnie & Clyde in Joplin, MO! One exhibit tells the Patrol’s role in ending Bonnie & Clyde’s crime spree.
A display pays tribute to Sergeant Benjamin O. Booth and Sheriff Roger Wilson and tells the story of their murders in 1933. Sgt. Booth was the first trooper to die in the line of duty. Another special display serves as a tribute to all the troopers who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice.
Exhibits showing the various functions within the Highway Patrol are found throughout the Safety & Education Center. The work of the Crime Laboratory Division, Training Division, Aircraft Division, Division of Drug & Crime Control, Communications Division, and more is highlighted. Additional displays include topics such as the Patrol’s role in the 1954 prison riot, dangers of driving impaired and drug abuse. Railroad crossing safety is also highlighted.
