MARINE ENFORCEMENT

Prerequisite: Any student born after January 1, 1984 MUST have successfully passed a Boaters Education course approved by NASBLA.  It is strongly recommended that everyone successfully pass a Boaters Education course approved by NASBLA prior to attending this course. The student should be able to swim 100 yards continuously and be able to tread water.  Students should be in good physical shape.   

Course Description: This course will provide members with the basic skills and knowledge to perform the job of a Marine Operations Trooper.  This course is a prerequisite for the 40-day Marine Officer Training, which is required for members wishing to work as a Marine Operations Trooper.  This course will focus on laws specific to the waterways of the state, vessel accident investigation, and boat operation.  Students will also learn about Boating While Intoxicated investigation and be certified by NASBLA in Seated Battery.  Approximately half of the time spent in the course will be spent in the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Training Tank.  In the Training Tank, students will learn/refine their swimming skills, tread water (with weights), learn rescues/assists, and participate in a survival swimming course (with uniform and weighted gun belt).  To pass this course, students must pass written tests and the yearly Marine Operations swim test.

Who Should Attend: Those interested in a position as a Marine Operations Trooper.
