Soil

Soil comparisons are requested by investigators to establish if soil from a crime scene is similar to soil discovered on items associated with a suspect. Most typically shoes, clothing or soil from tires will be submitted for comparison to soil controls from the crime scene. Many soils can be differentiated by their color. Soil comparison is analyzed for both the organic (vegetation) and the inorganic (minerals) components within the soil.
